Running each of the two parishes within the Benefice of St Luke’s is the joint responsibility of the incumbent (our Rector, Reverend Trish Bancroft) and the Parochial Church Council (PCC). The PCC consists of the parish clergy and elected representatives of each congregation.
The PCC is responsible for the financial affairs of the church and the care and maintenance of the church fabric and its contents, also the churchyard and related areas. These responsibilities are executed by the churchwardens of each church or a number of sub-committees made up of PCC members and other interested parishioners, as appropriate.
The PCC also has a voice in the form of worship used by the church and they make representations to the Bishop and Deanery Synod on matters affecting the welfare and pastoral care of the parish.
The incumbent is the chairman of both PCCs and the PCCs must meet at least four times each year.
Both St Luke’s parishes are registered as charities under the current relevant Charities Act and the members of each PCC are Trustees.
Many of the parish post holders are appointed by the PCCs, such as the child and vulnerable persons’ representative, treasurer, secretary, sacristans, chalice assistants and sidespersons. However the churchwardens are elected at an annual meeting of parishioners, open to all who live in each parish.
